Hello Everyone,
Your Bears are done with all their school work and now are just working hard in practices before leaving for Christmas break. One of their recent community service activities was helping residents at the Garden Square Assistant living center to decorate their doors and sing Christmas carols. Everyone had a good time, residents were happy about their nicely decorate doors and they definitely had a good time singing and and even dancing with the Bears. Girls did a nice job entertaining the residents and making their day a little more special.

Game time is finally here!!! Hope to see you at Fridays game vs South Dakota, start time at 5pm!!! GO BEARS!!!

Team Retreat!!!
This past Saturday Lady Bears had a fun team-building event. Everyone on the team (including coaches) was divided into four groups that required dressing up as Pretty Princesses, “Circus Freaks”, Gangsters or the Nerds…. Needless to say - it was a lot of fun as everyone worked hard on their outfits. Besides the crazy dressing up, the game “Minute to Win It” was pretty entertaining as well. The girls came up with some challenging tasks such as rug sliding race, egg rolling with your nose, stacking cup cakes on the forehead and many others. We closed retreat with the trivia game about the players and the coaches. The girls ended the event with an impromptu musical performance.

Lady Bears Earn Top 25 Academic Honor Roll
When they're not practicing or playing in a game, it's obvious that the Northern Colorado women's basketball team is hitting the books as the Bears were named to Women's Basketball Coaches Association's (WBCA) 2009-2010 Academic Top 25 Team Honor Roll.
The Bears had a combined GPA of 3.351, which ranked 18th among Division I institutions and second out of three teams in the Big Sky Conference behind NAU (#13, 3.425 GPA) and ahead of Eastern Washington (#22, 3.328 GPA).
"Our players work very hard in the classroom," said Head Coach Jaime White. "This is a great honor and represents the high achieving student-athletes that play women's basketball at Northern Colorado."
This award is given at NCAA Division I, Division II, Division III, NAIA and NJCAA which awards the top academic teams as nominated by their coaches.
The Lady Bears also won the CHAMPS/Life Skills Team challenge this year. The competition is between the 19 athletic teams at UNC and combines community outreach, academic achievement, personal/team enhancement, Bear Pride and Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) participation and communication.

Meet the New Voice of the Bears: Jason Alvine
Jason is a native Colorado-an, UNC alumni and loves to play cards! Loveland is where he calls home and works his second job in custom wood-work. Jason graduated from UNC in '02 with a degree in broadcast journalism, did his internship for comcast and got his first job for an arena football team, the Austin Wranglers. He even donned a 7 foot horse mascot for most of the year. He is the only boy in his family, being the youngest of three. He has 3 nieces and 3 nephews and throughly enjoys Thanksgiving, as he puts it, "what other day is it exceptable to start eating turkey at 9 o'clock in the morning?!"
Just for fun: Jason loves to play poker and actually participated in the World Series of Poker in 2008. Besides poker he enjoys playing the card game nertz, which he better be on top of his game as this is the game of choice while wasting time in the airport and can get rather competitive!
