When they're not practicing or playing in a game, it's obvious that the Northern Colorado women's basketball team is hitting the books as the Bears were named to Women's Basketball Coaches Association's (WBCA) 2009-2010 Academic Top 25 Team Honor Roll.
The Bears had a combined GPA of 3.351, which ranked 18th among Division I institutions and second out of three teams in the Big Sky Conference behind NAU (#13, 3.425 GPA) and ahead of Eastern Washington (#22, 3.328 GPA).
"Our players work very hard in the classroom," said Head Coach Jaime White. "This is a great honor and represents the high achieving student-athletes that play women's basketball at Northern Colorado."
This award is given at NCAA Division I, Division II, Division III, NAIA and NJCAA which awards the top academic teams as nominated by their coaches.
The Lady Bears also won the CHAMPS/Life Skills Team challenge this year. The competition is between the 19 athletic teams at UNC and combines community outreach, academic achievement, personal/team enhancement, Bear Pride and Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) participation and communication.
